Fermius Firefly

A Dream Log, whenever I remember the dreams I've had.

My Photo
Name:
Location: San Marcos, United States

Fermius is a pen name drawn from a series of short fiction I wrote when I published the small press magazine Stellanova (on paper.) I play RPG games to escape from my daily grind as a technology wage slave for the state of California. I eat out a lot in order to do my part in supporting our increasingly service level economy. I am butler to 2 feline masters. If you ask them they will tell you I'm not very good at it, late with dinner, don't have enough hands with brushes in them, and sometimes I even lock them out of their office.

Bathroom Renovation, Found Earring

I dreamed that the ghost house renovation of the haunted bathroom was complete. It still had the sunken tub and separate shower, but both were now nestled in a bright yellow alcove set off with three sliding frosted glass panels edged in silver.

Unfortunately the ghost that originally inhabited that area of the house seemed to be gone. That made me sad.

Night before last I dreamed that I kept finding one of N's missing opal earrings, sometimes in the fold of a cushion, sometimes in the vacuum cleaner bin, sometimes in the carpet, once in curtain, snagged about ear height. Each time I placed it in an old pill bottle so N could come and get it. Finally I got frustrated, and looked inside the bottle to see if it had a hole in it, nope, but it was about 1/3rd full of identical opal earrings.

Little Flowers, Hungry Grub

I dreamed I was giving a tour of the house and the conversation came around to flowers. One of the people who were looking at the house asked which flowers were my favorites on the property.

I took them out to the front, explaining that they were not in bloom here at the start of winter, but there were some great miniature flowers that looked a lot like gold and orange pansies. The flowers are only about 5mm across, though. I also found a small patch of the 3mm blue and purple geraniums which were in bloom.

"But those are weeds."

"Only if you don't want them."

I took them inside and showed them where I'd put up several 8x10 framed photos of flowers. "All of these are from the miniature flowers in this yard."

"I thought those were all from some sort of exotic flower show."

"No," I smiled, "All of these grow here in this yard, or in the cracks in the sidewalks of the neighborhood. We are so programmed to see only the big and showy, we miss a whole lot of the beauty of the world. It would take a lifetime to exhaust the photographic opportunities of this neighborhood alone."

We went back outside to look for more little plants and found, instead, a large grub who'd been cut in half. The grub was consuming itself; trying to fill up the emptiness caused by it's missing back end.

3:33:33 AM Saturday Morning

I woke up with the BCD display clock showing ":::::" from a dream where I was taking photos of a very handsome couple. We were on a private beach, just a little space of pure sand between some dark granite cliffs. There was a rocky reef about fifty yards out, making the beach fairly calm.

I got lots of great shots, and it was obvious the couple were very into each other. It only took a couple of minutes before they were both helping one another out of their swimming apparel.

The woman, after a full memory chip of shots called her sister. It turns out she was a twin. The sister had thought the photo shoot sounded like fun, so had called their mother as well. So, I ended up with two green-eyed thirty-year olds with long blonde hair and slender waists and their fifty-six year old mother, who had bright blue eyes and brown shoulder length hair. She was rounder, but still in remarkably good shape. I suspected that the two younger women's hair was naturally the same color as their mother's, and that their mother's hair probably only used to be that color.

I brought several reflectors and some extra flash units down from the beach house I was renting and set up to do some portraits. Once again it didn't take long for all three women to be nude in the sun and sand. I shot the three of them all the way through an absolutely gorgeous sunset and then offered to put them up for the night so I could shoot them in the misty morning in the diffuse light beneath the marine layer.

The mom's comment was, "Ooh, Marine layer, I like the sound of that."
