Kite Disaster
I was in a huge warehouse of what I would call vintage design. Red brick, narrow windows in tiny panes across the top quarter of the long walls. Inside we had a giant round parafoil style kite attached to a pile of lumber. A giant fan rattled and whirred in the center of building. The large loading doors were open on either narrow end, creating a makeshift wind tunnel. I could see the main line of the kite being pulled down into the fan, and just moments before the line was cut started shouting to get the researchers out of the way.
The line went into the fan, cutting it almost instantly. I ducked into a nearby doorway as the stack of lumber swung down and flattened the giant fan under it. Although the power had been cut, the blades were still rotating. Wood and metal fragments were blasted across the warehouse; shattering the windows within thirty feet of the centerline.
I don't believe anyone was injured or killed, but knew this was going to be a setback for the air pressure lifting project.
